Malaysian PM: Do not Be Cultural Demonstration

"What would this country if every day there are demonstrations?" Prime Minister Najib Razak said.



Demonstrations demanding clean elections in Malaysia on Saturday, July 9, 2011, last chaos. Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, condemned the incident and urged its people to convey their aspirations in ways that polite.

Najib, quoted from the pages of The Star, Sunday, July 10, 2011, said the delivery of aspiration by taking to the streets or demonstrations will only lead to chaos. Demonstrations, he said, do not be a culture in the country.

"The people of Malaysia should not take to the streets to voice their dissatisfaction. Demonstration of the streets is not the Malaysian culture," said Najib.

Government of Malaysia, Najib added, always open to feedback and discussion, including the demands of a clean and fair elections. Najib said the people can submit their own aspirations to the Election Commission or the government directly. This is the best way he thinks than gathering mass and shouted in the street.

"If everyone took to the streets, the riot would occur. What would happen if our country every day there are demonstrations?" Najib said.

The demonstration titled "Operation Clean Erase" followed by tens of thousands mass in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last chaos when police began firing tear gas. Dozens of people were reported injured, including the opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, who fell and bruised due to the gas fire.

As many as 1667 demonstrators were arrested in the riots. However, the authorities claim they have freed some of them several hours after the arrest. They also indicate the possibility of most of the demonstrators would not be detained for one night.

"I hope this incident will give a lesson to everyone that street demonstrations are not only difficult for many people, but also damage to property," said Najib.
