Want to Remove Non-Aligned Movement of Nuclear Weapons
Ministerial Conference of Non Aligned Movement (NAM) today to discuss efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons from the face of the earth. This effort is to realize the world is safe from the threat of weapons of mass destruction.
Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa in a speech opening the NAM conference in Bali, Wednesday, May 25, 2011, said that the issue of abolition of nuclear weapons would seriously discussed at a forum of 118 countries are members.
At the meeting, said Natalegawa, will be formulated in an effort to remove nuclear weapons in total worldwide. The role of NAM in this case is to support disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation.
"Our commitment in disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation must be totally absolute,"said Natalegawa.
NAM also must approach through sustained and constructive engagement between the non-nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons state. One way is to improve cooperation in contemporary issues, such as climate change and food security and energy.
"We must continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with member countries of the G7," said Natalegawa.
The conference marks 50 years this time aimed at the establishment of the NAM as a neutral container between two warring blocks on the Cold War. The conference was attended by 695 delegates from 118 member countries and dozens of state laws.
The theme of this conference is to formulate the vision and mission of the NAM in the next 50 years. the conference will also be inaugurated two new member countries, Fiji and Azerbaijan.
